UTO KULM and Giusep Fry
Giusep Fry has been running the UTO KULM hotel for more than 25 years. He led the tradition of gastronomy and hotel hospitality on Uetliberg, which began in 1839, into the modern age and was instrumental in shaping it. Today, UTO KULM is undoubtedly an established highlight of the hotel landscape in Zurich.
It was 1983 when the then 24 year-old took over the management of the hotel. When its future came under threat in 1999 from the merger of Bankverein and Bankgesellschaft into UBS, he decided to purchase the business and, at the same time, make big changes. With his creative entrepreneurial spirit, he transformed the mountain inn with its wealth of tradition into a new gem of the Swiss hotel sector.
